If your 2024 goals include writing a book, not just saying it, dreaming it, procrastinating it, wishing it, keep reading:
Nonfiction Book Proposal Editor (*Calendar Open)
I've got storyteller soul with a marketing brain. It helped me acquire not one, but two literary agents, and sell my big idea to a big publisher in a preempt for a six figure advance. I'm currently previewing which projects I take on for the year.
Having been on both sides, creative and strategy, I've got a unique vantage point that lends itself for developmental editing. I'm able to help hone your proposal through the lens of positioning, target audience, trends, and promotion. I understand what literary agents, editors, and publishers are looking, speak their language, and help make your idea crystal clear so you can bring it to the table.
I work with clients in non-fiction.
(*I have opened up my calendar for the New Year and am officially taking meetings/submissions to preview which projects I will take on. For each quarter of 2024 I will be choosing one project in each category below)
There are 3 ways I can work with you on developmental editing.
HELP NEEDED—You have a proposal BUT it’s not doing what it needs to. This is for people who have most of it down on paper but need help restructuring, pulling the idea into focus, revising language to maintain voice. Maybe you have an agent and they keep asking you to tweak things. Or maybe you’re hoping to land one. This one’s for you.
PROPOSAL NEEDED—You have an idea or a platform or a loose outline but that’s really it. This is for people who have something in their head or heart but need help with creating the proposal from scratch. Maybe you don’t know where to begin or aren’t confident in your writing or ability to tell a story in this new medium. This one’s for you.
POSITIONING NEEDED—You have the proposal and writing ready to go (yay!) but you don’t know where to begin in terms of the marketing, publicity, and promotion portion. This is for people who speak writing but not selling. Maybe you know your writing and storytelling is spectacular but you don’t know how to tell the story of your readers, your timing, your niche in the market to the publisher or agent. This one’s for you.
My goal as a developmental editor is to help shape the complete package into something that honor’s your voice, style, vision, and goals while preparing it in a way that the target audience receives it well, positioning you and your nonfiction proposal in the best light possible.
